Renaissance Rebirth
This series of artwork combines photography with classical painting to create images of real places and real people, separated by time and medium. ‘Renaissance Rebirth’ invites viewers into a world where figures from Renaissance paintings step out of their classical frames and into the bustling atmosphere of contemporary settings. The artwork confronts the viewer with pictures that are simultaneously familiar whilst also incongruous. The artist uses this anachronistic staging to delve into themes of timelessness and social connectivity, suggesting that the human experience, with its revels and interactions, transcends the boundaries of time. By placing historically distant figures into the very same spot you are standing today, the series prompts reflections on the changes and constants in social gatherings and human behaviour across centuries and most importantly inviting you to confront the concepts of the perennial themes of sex and power within a ‘nightclub’ space.
